The
unit requires a small voltage to operate. This
is provided by connecting a black wire from
the Monitor to the outboard inter-connecting
strap of the adjacent cell in the direction
of the battery negative post and a red wire
to the outboard strap of the cell on the opposite
side. This will provide approximately 6 vdc
to the electronics, turning on the LED, but
with a current drain of less than 5 milliamperes,
much less than the self-discharge of the battery.
The
LED is ON at all times, operating in the fail-safe
mode. If it is dull, the battery should be charged
to prevent sulfation, and if it is out, then
the acid level is low and the battery should
be charged, then distilled water added. Normally
a Monitor on just the center cell will protect
the entire battery.
Probe
length is 2-1/8"
