Checking
the life of your battery has never been so easy.
Flooded
lead-acid batteries are used in most vehicles due
to their low cost and deep cycle capability. The electrolyte
used in these batteries is diluted sulfuric acid.
In order for the battery to function properly it is
important that its charge be maintained and the acid
always cover the plates. If this is not done, the
plates will end up with a deposit of lead sulfide
and the battery will fail.
The
H2O in the diluted acid will gradually be reduced
due to out-gassing during charging or simple evaporation
and must be replaced on a regular basis. This means
that in olden times the filler cap over each cell
had to be removed, the acid level checked, and distilled
water added. Great care had to be exercised to prevent
damage to personnel and clothing due to the acid.
Hydro-Eye
probes solve the problem of unnecessary inspections
by providing a simple probe that is immersed in the
acid itself. The probe replaces the filler cap and
contains one or two LEDs to show the operator whether
or not there is sufficient acid in the battery.
Using
Hydro-Eye probes you can MAINTAIN BATTERY
LIFE and CUT COSTS. Hydro-Eye
probes are warranted for five years. If your battery
wears out, install the old probe in the new one. |
